This broadcast will feature Tim Parsons the Author for Paramedic Chris.
Paramedic Chris, introduces you to Chris and Zara, where they work as paramedics and their lives. The books show how busy life is as a paramedic and how it’s not just a nine to five – you have to work weekends when the rest of the family are at home but, they’re doing a really important job and saving lives.
The book teaches children about different kinds of emergencies – from panic attacks that feel like heart attacks to trips, falls and broken bones. It also talks about prank calls and how dangerous they can be, taking the ambulance away from real emergencies.
The book feels like larger format Mr Men books – with beautiful illustrations on every double page and just the right amount of text to give good structure to the story and keep the children engaged before another illustration appears.
This broadcast is 20 minutes and is suitable for Key stage 1 children (age 5-10)

Tim Parsons
Author
My name is Timothy Parsons, I am chaplain to South East Coast Ambulance Service as well as a children’s author. I am married to Caroline and we have three children, William, Joshua, and Daniel. I enjoy football, classic cars, playing the guitar, reading, writing, meals out with friends and family as well as computers. I am often described as outgoing and enthusiastic, with lots of ideas, I would agree with this and love helping other people feel that passion. I am passionate about helping other people, especially with mental health and supporting people as they rebuild their lives. My passion in life is to make other people’s lives easier and if the paramedic Chris books can help with this, I know I have achieved my goal in life.
My first ever shift with the ambulance service was with a gentleman named Chris and he shared with me how his daughter had been battling cancer since a young age and had written a book herself based upon experiences of battling with health. This inspired me to write a book and when we got back to the ambulance at the station, I spoke to a few colleagues about my idea of a book and realised there was nothing for the ambulance service, particularly for children aged between 0-10. I did my research and alongside the publisher and illustrator, we created the Paramedic Chris character. The first book was created and based upon a hoax call that we had attended.
